Netflix is known for giving the toughest interviews, even amongst the FAANG companies. While they want you to know your way around the technology and/or area of expertise (programming language, project management, etc.) necessary for the role, they also place significant emphasis on culture fit. As a matter of fact, Netflix lays out their company culture in their culture memo found here. Many companies focus on whether you are a culture fit but Netflix pays particular attention. It’s not uncommon to hear that a candidate passed the tech rounds but was rejected because he or she was not aligned with the company’s culture. Their tech rounds are intense and nerve wracking, reminiscent of mini coding boot camps.
The intensity of interviews might make it seem as if getting hired by Netflix is a difficult to achieve dream but it is possible. Being really prepared is key. Review their culture memo in detail and use what you can to explain how closely you align with their core values. Make sure you know your domain or tech well. Be prepared to answer in-depth questions on both behavioral and technical points and situations.
These interviews span across approximately 5 rounds that typically last for a week or two but can also last up to a month. The interview process at Netflix often varies, with different questions being asked and is team-dependent. You might interview with a panel consisting of one or two Directors (sometimes they will participate in different rounds) and members from relevant teams. If you are interviewing for a senior position, the interviewers will look for aptitude in leadership, mentoring, team leading, team building, problem solving, project management, etc. If you are interviewing for beginner to mid-level positions, they will look for teamwork, problem-solving, time management, etc.
